This lecture is designed to provide an in-depth review of the menopause transition, with a focus on recent updates in menopausal hormone therapies. Attendees will gain an understanding of key definitions, as well as the cardiometabolic changes and pathophysiology associated with menopause. The lecture will also highlight the historical evolution of hormone therapy, discussing landmark studies that have influenced current treatment approaches.

In addition to reviewing the pivotal research that has shaped the narrative around hormone therapy, the session will cover updated treatment guidelines and position statements. New therapeutic options available for managing menopausal symptoms will also be discussed. This comprehensive overview is aimed at healthcare providers working in primary care, women’s health, endocrinology, gynecology, and OB/GYN, ensuring they are equipped with the latest evidence-based strategies to support patients through this critical life stage.

Holly-Marie Bolger, DO, FACOG, MSCP Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Holly-Marie Bolger, DO, FACOG, MSCP, is an Associate Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Iowa Health Care. She practices as a full-scope academic generalist, covering obstetrics, gynecology, and gynecological surgery. With a special interest in menopause care, she holds certification in the field and serves as the Medical Director of the Menopause Health Clinic. Dr. Bolger is also actively involved in various departmental and institutional committees focused on quality, safety, and resident education.

Dr. Bolger completed her undergraduate studies at Drake University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology. She received her osteopathic medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011. Following her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Louis University, she joined the faculty at the University of Iowa. In 2016, she relocated to Springfield, Missouri, joining a hospital-based practice, but returned to her current role at the University of Iowa in 2020.

Outside of her professional career, Dr. Bolger enjoys spending time with her husband, Matt, and their four children, ages 16, 12, 10, and 7. She stays active with her family’s school and sports commitments and enjoys outdoor activities, working out, cooking, and traveling.
