Description

This session will be an overview of hypermobility spectrum disorder as well as Ehlers Danlos syndrome.  We will describe the pathophysiology as well as associated symptoms.  We will describe how to properly diagnose these disorders and went to refer for additional evaluation.  We will also discuss common rheumatologic mimics and how to differentiate from hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos syndrome.

  • Describe Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Hypermobility spectrum disorder
  • Describe the pathophysiology and associated symptoms of hypermobility disorders
  • Discuss how to properly diagnosis hypermobility and when to refer for additional evaluation
  • Discuss rheumatologic mimics and how to differentiate from hypermobility

Originally from New Hampton, Iowa, Matthew Samec, MD, completed undergraduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa before earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Samec pursued an Internal Medicine Residency and a Rheumatology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He currently practices as a Rheumatologist at the Iowa Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center in Urbandale, Iowa.
