The opioid crisis and an epidemic of chronic pain affects an estimated 100 million Americans. With recent initiatives to change prescribing practices, new models for treating pain need to be explored and considered. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has issued new requirements for new and renewing DEA licenses starting on June 27, 2023 and physicians will need to complete continuing Medical Education credits to comply with these requirements.

Dr. Neville earned his PharmD from the University of Georgia and completed a postgraduate General Clinical Residency at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Following his residency, he served as a clinical pharmacist at Crawford Long Hospital, also in Atlanta, Ga. He later served in a jointly funded position: Internal Medicine preceptor and PGY-1 Residency Program Director at Emory Healthcare and on faculty in the School of Nursing at Emory University where he taught undergraduate and graduate pharmacology. While at Emory, he was awarded the Crystal Apple for Excellence in Teaching Undergraduate Nursing, The Jean Thomas Award for Creativity in Teaching, and the Williams Teaching Award. In 2008, Dr. Neville was hired by the UGA College of Pharmacy as a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Skills Laboratories. The UGA College of Pharmacy recognized him as the 2014 Teacher of the Year, and he was promoted to Clinical Professor. While at the UGA, he served as the Pharmacy Team Leader and preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY-1 and PGY-2 pharmacists as he cared for low-income patients at his clinical practice site, The Mercy Health Center. Mercy recognized him as the 2013 Pharmacy Volunteer of the Year.

The Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association (VOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. VOMA designates this program for a maximum of 2 AOA Category 1A CME credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.
