This presentation will cover the role of Physical therapy in pelvic floor dysfunction and expectations for evaluation and treatment. Pelvic floor dysfunction negatively impacts quality of life, however over half of symptomatic patients do not seek medical treatment. Patients may dismiss the idea of Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy due to their discomfort with exams, feelings of embarrassment, or lack of understanding of what to expect on the day of their appointment. Physicians' comfortability discussing Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy expectations can decrease patients’ anxiety regarding treatment and improve patient compliance with treatment and attendance.

Jessica Petz received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Misericordia University in 2017. Shortly after, she began post graduate training in female, male, and transgender pelvic floor rehabilitation. She obtained a Board Certification in Women’s Health Physical Therapy and was certified in Pessary Management through the American Physical Therapy Association. Her passion for obstetrical care led to a Certificate of Achievement in Pregnancy & Postpartum Physical Therapy (OB-CAPP) through the American Physical Therapy Association. She previously served as faculty of the Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Currently, Jessica is practicing in Virginia with the Carilion Clinic Healthcare System in Montgomery and Giles Counties. She is a Board-Certified Specialist in Women’s Health Physical Therapy
