Sepsis remains an enigmatic topic to those outside of the medical field, creating a gap in understanding for patients and clinicians alike. This session aims to bridge this knowledge gap by providing a comprehensive overview of sepsis, its impact on patient care, and the crucial steps involved in diagnosing and treating this life-threatening condition. By delving into the definitions, epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management strategies of sepsis, this talk strives to empower clinicians to play a more proactive role in improving patient outcomes and reducing mortality rates.

  • Explore the epidemiology of sepsis, emphasizing the significance of early detection and management in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

James M. Wilson, DO, DO Related Seminars and Products


James Wilson, DO, is a distinguished former US Navy flight surgeon and experienced aerospace medicine physician who has managed a primary and operational medicine clinic. During his postgraduate medical education (GME) training, Dr. Wilson dedicated his time to practicing primary care in internal medicine and HIV clinics on a weekly basis.
 
His extensive medical background includes providing urgent care services and facilitating the smooth transfer of septic patients to local emergency departments. Dr. Wilson's leadership qualities were evident as he chaired the sepsis committee while serving as a hospitalist/ICU nocturnist post his Navy tenure, before embarking on further educational pursuits in infectious diseases and critical care medicine.
 
Presently, Dr. Wilson actively contributes to the medical field by publishing research in infectious diseases, while serving as a full-time intensivist. His time is split between managing septic patients and collaborating as a dedicated member of the sepsis committee at his current hospital and within national healthcare organizations.
 
Dr. Wilson's commitment to excellence is underscored by his Fellowship in the American College of Physicians through ACP and his certification in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene by the ASTMH. For the past 8 years, he has also generously shared his expertise as an instructor in life-saving courses including BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, PHTLS, and TCCC, embodying his dedication to training future medical professionals.
