Exploring the Challenges of Maternal Mortality- Anita Showalter, DO, FACOOG
This lecture will review US statistics in maternal mortality and how we compare on the world stage. Areas of racial and ethnic disparities in mortality and morbidity will be discussed. Programs that have made improvements in maternal mortality will be explored along with ways we might further impact this important health outcome.

Anita Showalter, DO, MA, FACOOG (Dist) is a board certified OBGYN with a special interest in the osteopathic management of pelvic pain syndromes. Her Master of Arts degree is in bioethics, and her research toward the degree included work on maternal mortality. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee for Osteopathic Curriculum, and speaks nationally on osteopathic manipulation in obstetrics and gynecology. She has recently retired from her position as Professor of Women’s Health at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences to reenter private practice at New Life Clinic with offices in Zillah and Yakima, Washington.
