Ralph Napolitano Jr., DPM

Dr. Napolitano is a double board-certified podiatrist and wound care specialist physician specializing in medicine, surgery, and wound care of the foot, ankle, and lower leg.

He is the Director of Wound Care and Healing at OrthoNeuro.

He is also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Specialty Medicine at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Napolitano is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Wound Management.

He was the first podiatrist in the state of Ohio to earn the board certification Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP). He remains active publishing and lecturing locally and nationally on wound care and healing.

Areas of special clinical interest, research, and publications include medical and surgical care of the foot and ankle, general wound care and healing, diabetic foot wounds, lower limb surgical salvage, management of surgical wound complications, custom foot orthotics, gait analysis, shoe gear consulting, aesthetic podiatry, and laser care.

Nicholas A. Cheney, DO

Dr. Cheney is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle surgery.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University, where he also served as team captain of the varsity men’s swim team.  Following graduation, Dr. Cheney attended medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and served for a number of years as a phase IV clinical instructor.

Dr. Cheney completed both his internship and orthopedic residency at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  Following his residency, he completed a foot and ankle fellowship with the Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  His practice emphasis includes ankle arthroplasty, heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, fractures, and foot/ankle sport injuries.  In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Cheney currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a Foot & Ankle Clinical Reviewer for Orthopedics, a peer-reviewed journal covering all aspects of adult and pediatric orthopedic surgery and treatment.

Scott Smith, MD

Dr. Scott A. Smith is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in comprehensive care for knee and shoulder conditions, sports injuries, and general orthopedics. His unwavering commitment to personalized treatment ensures that each patient’s unique needs are met, aiming to help them regain mobility, alleviate pain, and return to active lifestyles.

Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Biochemistry from DePauw University. Building upon this foundation, Dr. Smith pursued his medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Following medical school, Dr. Smith embarked on intensive surgical training, completing a comprehensive five-year Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He then honed his expertise further through a specialized Sports Medicine Fellowship at The Ohio State University Department of Orthopedics in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Smith has received recognition throughout his career for his academic achievements and contributions to orthopedic surgery. He has contributed to research published in reputable orthopedic journals and presented his findings at professional conferences. Dr. Smith has provided medical coverage for various sports teams, including Westfield High School, The Ohio State University, and the Columbus Clippers Baseball team. He has volunteered his medical expertise at events such as the Pelotonia and participated in humanitarian missions to provide orthopedic care in Nicaragua.

Before joining OrthoNeuro, Dr. Smith was an Attending Physician at Riverview Health Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Westfield, Indiana. He held the esteemed position of Medical Director for the Riverview Health Sports Medicine Service Line from August 2020 to March 2024. Dr. Smith’s active membership in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America, reflects his dedication to staying at the forefront of his field and his commitment to professional growth.

Ying Chen, DO

Dr. Chen received his Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and attended medical school at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his rotating internship with Ohio University at Doctors Hospital Ohio Health Systems in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Chen subsequently served his residency appointment at Doctors Hospital, OhioHealth Systems in Columbus, Ohio as well as skull base training with Midwestern University at the BroMenn Regional Medical Center campus in Bloomington, Illinois and was a visiting fellow in Spine Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Chen has served as chief resident in neurological surgery for two years at BroMenn Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Chen has served on the Credentialing Committee and Institutional Review Board at Mount Carmel Health Systems and serves as the chairman on the Information Technology Committee with OrthoNeuro. Dr. Chen is a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi and is a member of the House of Delegates with the Columbus chapter of the Ohio Osteopathic Association. He has been published in the area of skull base imaging as well as spinal artificial disc technology. He was an invited speaker at the American Skull Base Society, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, and presented on topics of outpatient spinal surgery. Dr. Chen is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in his clinical practice. He has also been involved with the development of curriculums for residency training for neurological surgery and actively participates in clinical training with residents and operating staff. Dr. Chen holds clinical privileges at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Mt. Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital, Dublin Methodist Hospital, and Grant Medical Center.

Jeffrey Gittins, DO

Dr. Gittins is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with specialized training in orthopedic sports medicine and adult foot and ankle reconstruction.

He attended medical school at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO.

After completing his internship and orthopedic residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Gittins completed his orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI), where he learned advanced techniques in arthroscopic surgery for the shoulder, elbow, knee, foot, and ankle.

Dr. Gittins also spent six months of additional training in foot and ankle surgery and trauma surgery at SCOI. Dr. Gittins completed his foot and ankle fellowship with Roger A. Mann in Oakland, CA.

While in Oakland, Dr. Gittins participated in advanced reconstruction techniques for the foot and ankle, including total ankle replacement. Dr. Gittins continues to be active in arthroscopic research and foot and ankle research.

Dr. Gittins served as a team physician for many high schools and universities.

He has published articles in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research and has written chapters in textbooks for shoulder arthroscopy and foot and ankle arthroscopy.

He is an associate master instructor of foot and ankle arthroscopy for the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Charity interests include Heart to Honduras Medical Missionary Group, where he is an orthopedic consultant.

Dr. Gittins holds privileges at New Albany Surgical Hospital, St. Ann’s Hospital, GRANT Bone and Joint Center, and OSU East Hospital.
