Nasal Disorders and Upper Respiratory Infections in Children


Learning Objectives:

1. Explain the natural history and clinical findings associated with acute sinusitis and upper respiratory infections, and manage appropriately
2. Recognize the clinical findings associated with both unilateral and bilateral choanal atresia, and evaluate appropriately
3.Formulate a differential diagnosis of epistaxis and manage appropriately
4.Recognize the common characteristics of allergic rhinitis and manage appropriately
5.Recognize the clinical findings associated with nasal polyps in patients of various ages and evaluate appropriately
6.Recognize the clinical findings associated with a nasal foreign body and manage appropriately
7.Explain the osteopathic manipulative techniques that would benefit the patient suffering from acute sinusitis,upper respiratory infections, and allergic rhinitis

Jeremy Jones, DO

Dr. Jones is a clinical associate professor in primary care at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MUCOM) in Indianapolis, IN. He is a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee for the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, the Catholic Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Indiana and Oklahoma Osteopathic Associations. Dr. Jones received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma and his Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSUCOM) in Tulsa, OK. Dr. Jones is board certified in pediatrics. He has been teaching and mentoring medical students and resident physicians for ten years. Dr. Jones has given more than two hundred lectures in graduate medical education classrooms as well as local, regional, and national conferences. His foremost interest is in his faith, where he attends Mass at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Dr. Jones also enjoys listening to his wife, Kayla, play classical piano. He currently has three living daughters: Gemma Rose Raphaela, age thirteen years; Mary Agnes, age eleven years; and Lucy Cecilia, age seven years.
